This is our last weekly newsletter for the time being - from now on we will be going MONTHLY!

So please bear this in mind when you are sending in items for inclusion in our newsletter and remember that the information needs to be relevant for circulation on the 1st Thursday of each month.  Copy deadline will be the Monday before that date.
We will still be including our Events Diary which has had good feedback, so keep that information rolling in.  We will also be able to put your events on our online calendar soon, so watch this space!

We are able to advertise your job vacancies and volunteering opportunities, but don't forget the copy date of the Monday preceding the first Thursday of each month!

Fundraising Ideas
10 tips for new £1 coin fundraising
The old, round pound ceasing to be legal tender on 15 October represents a great chance to maximise donations over the coming months. Mary Strickson has gathered together some great examples and tips.

South West Foundation is moving
Small Grants

Development Worker Networking Fund
This is a small time limited fund for grants of up to £300 to enable development workers to come together and network. This fund has been provided by George the Regional Funding advice workers network.
Young People’s Fund
Grants of up to £500 are available to enable young people who have an idea around helping others in their community and would like to undertake a project to achieve this.  This can be a small project but as long as at least 4 young people are involved, an application can be made. Part of the grant is to be used to reward the young people at the end of the project with an activity of their choice. The application must be submitted from the organization supporting the young people.
Esmée Fairbairn Small Grants
Grants available of up to £1,000 for small charitable community groups with an annual expenditure of less than £25,000. Grants must support activities with people most in need mainly in communities in rural areas, market and coastal towns or communities that are under-represented in our grant programme.

Wiltshire VCSE Forum

The VCSE sector in Wiltshire is a vibrant and diverse body of people and organisations doing fantastic work. The efforts of the sector brighten, strengthen and enrich the lives of thousands of people but in the current financially austere environment those in the sector who provide health and social care support to people often find themselves in a relationship with statutory providers of services.

This interaction in some cases is not as good as it could be and there is often a sense that the Sector is being ‘done unto’ rather being engaged as a partner in a common goal.

Around the UK some areas have overcome the ‘them and us’ problem by moving towards a relationship of co-production. Co-production is an equal relationship between people who use services and the people responsible for services. They work together, from design to delivery, sharing strategic decision-making about policies as well as decisions about the best way to deliver services.

At the 2017 VCSE Forum we would like to ask the question: “Why can’t it be like that here?’’

The forum, organised by the Wiltshire VCSE Strategic Engagement Group (SEG), will take place on:

The FREE event includes a light lunch and networking following the forum.

Our guest speaker will be Clenton Farquharson MBE Chair of Think Local Act Personal (TLAP) and National Lead on Co-Production.

Wiltshire Sight are Recruiting
Due to an exciting new project Wiltshire Sight are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Sight Advisor, to join their small friendly team based in Devizes. The Sight Advisor will provided information, advice and support to Blind and Partially Sighted People and their families, at our resource and equipment centre and in the community.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in the Health and Social Care sector and will have a good understanding of working with vulnerable individuals.

Full training will be given to the right candidate
A DBS will be required for the post

Salary: £8,528 (Actual)

Hours of work: Part time 10am- 2pm Monday to Friday

Location: Devizes, Wiltshire - The post will require extensive travel throughout Wiltshire and Swindon for which a mileage allowance of 45p per mile will be paid

Meeting the needs of people with learning disabilities

Background to the Charity
We provide a range of activities that will help encourage and build a range of opportunities for individuals with disabilities. These services include:
  • Kingfishers: a day service for those with mental health problems (Tue and Fri),
  • Blue Skies: a day service exclusively for those with learning disabilities (Mon, Tue and Fri),
  • Social Club: an evening session open for everyone (Mon, Wed and Fri), and
  • Children’s Services: a service for children with disabilities in collaboration with Barnardo’s (Sat in term time and Tue and Thu during the school holidays).
These services are in part funded by grants from Wiltshire Council but fund raising remains an important activity both to generate funds and to raise awareness of the charity and its activities.

We have an experienced book-keeper who prepares the ‘actual’ figures against the ‘budget’ on a quarterly basis. At the yearend these figures are independently examined by Clifford Fry (Accounts) before submission to the Charity Commission.
We are seeking a Trustee, with financial experience, to act as treasurer for the charity. Responsibilities would include:
  • The preparation of a budget for the forthcoming financial year,
  • The presentation of the ‘actual’ financial figures (prepared by the book-keeper) at the bimonthly trustees meeting together with an authoritive analysis of the implication of these figures against the ‘budget’,
  • The supervision of the preparation of the yearend figures, the arrangement of an independent examination of these figures and their submission to the Charity Commission,
  • Other support on financial matters as and when required.
