Our History

1974
Founded
Established in 1974, we began life as Salisbury District Council for Voluntary Services, supporting local charities, volunteers and community organisations across South Wiltshire.

1980s
Building Local Voluntary Sector Support
Throughout the 1980s the organisation expanded its role as a local CVS, helping community groups with governance, funding advice, volunteer support and community development. Many of these services remain central to WCA today.

Charity and Company Structure Formalised
We formalised our charitable structure, ensuring strong governance and long-term sustainability.

2006
Becoming Wessex Community Action
A new name reflected our growing role across Wiltshire and our commitment to supporting stronger communities throughout the region.

2024
Celebrating 50 Years
WCA celebrated its 50th anniversary, marking half a century of supporting communities, volunteers and charities across Wiltshire. The organisation highlighted the growth of initiatives such as Wiltshire Together and its ongoing commitment to strengthening local communities.

Building on more than 50 years of community impact, we launched a new brand and digital presence that reflects who we are today and our vision for the future - collaborative, innovative and community-focused.
